International Women's Day Celebration with GBG Phnom Penh
March 8th has been a fantastic day. I've explored another corner of Phnom Penh and met awesome people. In celebration of the International Women's Day, Google Business Group Phnom Penh held it's
first meet up with the theme "Women, Entrepreneurship and Technology" at the Park Cafe Calmette, Monivong, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Participated by around 50 people, topics related to women, business and technology were discussed. It was opened by Pich Viras, GBG Phnom Penh Manager, with a short briefing about Google Business Group Phnom Penh , Women on the Web and Map up Season 2014. Next, Women, Entrepreneurship and Technology was talked about by Lorn Darin. I liked his discussion because he related about the role of women today in the family, society and community. And I definitely agree with him. After his part, I was asked by Mr. Pich to share something with the group. I was a little bit hesitant because I was just there to attend the event and I wasn't told to prepare for a short speech. However, I just tried to organize my thoughts on what to say in front.
Me talking as a Woman on the Web |
In relation with the event's theme and the day's celebration, I just shared a little story about me as a Woman on the Web. I talked about how women can use technology for both business and passion which in my case, blogging and video making. I set myself as an example as a blogger and a youtuber. I related about my work, what I do and some of my ideals. I wanted to say more but I was not that prepared. Even though, I hope I have shared something with them.
Then, a young speaker, Sreynak Chet, presented about Codingate. Codingate is a software product outsourcing provider for both foreign and domestic clients. Being lead by a woman, she showed us what is Codingate all about.
Of course, the last speaker, another woman advocate, Soeng Soknim, spoke about Women, Volunteerism and Technology. She is a member of ASEAN Youth for Green advocating to save mother earth.
To make the event more fun, raffle prizes were given away where I drew 5 winners to receive 5 bundles of Obsidian gift packs from VHP Trading Cambodia. Luckily, I picked my own name and my friend's name and we were among the 5 winners. I didn't cheat. I swear! Royce drinks were also given away.

I had fun during the event. Although they used Khmer/Cambodian language most of the time, I got their messages through their visuals and presentations.

It was nice meeting the managers in person, where we only met first time online. The organizers, members and participants were all friendly and warm. I am also thankful to have been a part of this and I hope I shared something to them even without any preparations.
Congratulations GBG Phnom Penh Pich Viras and company for one successful event!
I followed you back dear.. =)
