Avon YMIB Blogger Challenge- Sultry Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial Entry

I really wasn't expecting to get into the semifinals for Avon's You Make It Beautiful Blogger Challenge. Along with the other 26 semifinalists, our challenge is to create a makeup tutorial following themes set by Avon. We were provided with products to use with rules and exemptions. I have chosen sultry smokey eyes as my theme. Read more to see how I did it.

1. Skin prep. A gorgeous makeup sets and blends well on a properly prepped skin. I have already done my skincare by cleansing, toning and moisturizing my face.

2. Conceal. To hide dark circles, spots and highlight features of the face, I used a cream concealer and blended them out.

3. Base. On with the base, using the sponge that comes with the Ideal Luminous Invisible Coverage Dual Powder Foundation, I set the concealer under the eyes, forehead and on the rest of the face. Don't forget to buff the powder into the hairline as well to avoid a masked looking face. And blend down on the neck, too.

4. Eyebrows. Outline first your desired shape of your brows. Fill in the 2/3 tail with light feather strokes. Here I used Avon Glimmerstick Brow Definer in Softest Black. Then blend out with a spooly to remove harsh lines.

5. Eyebase. To serve as an eyeshadow primer, I used the same cream concealer I used earlier.

6. Black base. Since I am going for a smokey eye, I am taking Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Blackest Black and using it to line all over lashline. I immediately smudge it out with a brush as I find this eyeliner quickly sets a few seconds after application. I also used this liner to shape my contour and black base for the smokey eye. Then quickly blend out with a brush for the smoked effect.

7. Highlighter. I took eye shadow 1 from the True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Emerald cult with the sponge applicator that came with it and applied it on the brow bone and inner corner.

8. Middle base. I flipped the sponge tip applicator and picked shadow 2 from the quad and popped it into the middle lid where it's empty.

9. Contour base. With a blending brush, I picked up shadow 3 from the quad and layered it on top of the black base I made earlier. Press it onto the socket and gently blend out to create the smokey effect. I applied the same shade on the lower lid.

10. Darkest contour. And to add more drama and intensify the dark smokiness of the eyes, I layered eyeshadow 4 on the 3 but carefully not totally covering the latter. I also used this on the lower lid as well.

11. I relined the entire upper and lower lashline including the waterline with the same Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Blackest Black  to really define the eyes.

12. Blush. If you don't know where to apply your blush, simply smile and locate the apples of your cheeks. Swirl your blush on here and sweep it towards the top of your ears.

13. Lipstick and lipgloss. I just applied the Avon Ultra Colors Lipstick in Knock out Pink then topped it off with Ultra Glazewear lip gloss in Mauve Movement for that sultry shiny lips.

14. And that's smile, and the world smiles with you.
