Last Minute Costume Play Makeup Look: Masquerade Mask

Preparing a costume party might be an added burden to some. Others may not have the time for it, too. So, here's a last minute makeup look you can easily pull off within a few minutes with a few materials and no props or accessories needed. This post will be how to do a masquerade mask right on your face.

Some may say just buy a mask from the craft store and that's it. But, where's the thrill to that? If you opt, you can
do some arts on your face to make you stand out with little preparation.

1. With your naked face, just put on a normal makeup with a little bit focus on the eyes and lips. Remember, you'll be wearing a mask so technically your face will be covered and you want somethings to pop up and stand out like your eyes and lips. So, in my case, I did a short winged cat eye look with red cherry lips that's rich and full.

2. Now after you're done with your full face makeup, time to do the most fun part---> the mask. I googled for an image of a laced masquerade mask pattern and I used it as an inspiration. With the use of a fine and pointed eyeliner brush, I mapped out the pattern using a black eye shadow. Mapping it out first makes you free to create your design, where you want it to start and end. And if you make a mistake, you can easily erase it and do it again.

3. After mapping out the pattern, I took a liquid eyeliner as the final ink to draw and finish the mask. This one The one I used is a liquid eyeliner with a jar. The brush tip was soft and long so it kinda bends when you slide and draw a line. I had a little bit of a hard time drawing curves line with this. I suggest, it's better you use an eyeliner pen with a felt or synthetic brush tip. It gives you a more and easier control with less mistakes. You may not need to exactly follow the pattern you got from the internet. You may go ahead and continue finishing with your own design.

Side note: Try to use a waterproof liquid eyeliner. This is long lasting, smudge-proof and fade-proof. In this look, I used the Mistine So Black Liquid Eyeliner. It's a proven and tested waterproof, long lasting and smudge-proof eyeliner. I actually had a hard time washing it off I had to use a facial scrib over a facial foam. Kohl and pencil eyeliners may not be the best option as they will fade, smudge and fade through out the night. Your sweat and oil in the face might ruin your gorgeous masquerade mask after a good dance.

So there you go. I will be posting other last minute costume play makeup ideas this week.
