Where to Find Filipino Halo-Halo in Phnom Penh

It's the summer season in the tropics and Cambodia is not an exception to that. Weather forecast says Cambodia should prepare for these coming hot days as temperature may rise up to 36 degrees Celsius. That surely is insanely hot specially for people who came from cool places like me. Nevertheless, here's a sweet treat to beat the summer heat.
Halo-halo is a traditional Filipino dessert or treat most Filipinos crave for during this hot season. "Halo-halo" means mix-mix because this recipe is literally a mixture of ingredients and you have to make "halo-halo" or mix them altogether before enjoying it's

However, being away from your home also means being away from your comfort food making you so food-sick. But, luckily, Filipinos in Phnom Penh don't have to just dream about this because a restaurant/cafe in the heart of Phnom Penh is serving this mix-mix halo-halo delight, the Bistro Filipino.

Their halo-halo is served in a medium sized plastic glass. The ingredients like sweetened jackfruit, beans, bananas, jello and nata-de-coco are placed on the bottom first and then covered with shaved ice. Generous amount of milk is poured over. And finally, it is topped with sweetened yellow corn, leche flan and ube. A glass costs US$2.5 and the expert level version with ice cream on top costs US$3.5.
I enjoyed this so so so much to the max! And I will certainly come back again to indulge myself in this and try the other sweet treats Bistro Filipino has. Aside from halo-halo, they also have mais con yelo, halayang ube, banana con yelo and leche flan. Trully Filipino!

Bistro Filipino is formerly Bistro Lorenzo and now under a new management. This restaurant has been operating even before I came here and this is my first time to try their halo-halo recipe. Bistro Filipino will be having a grand opening soon in the next few months so let's await for that day and see what Bistro Filipino has to offer.
